the homestuck fandom has a bad rep i think. a large majority of the fandom is teenagers (myself included) and theyre generally seen as cringy and annoying. in all honesty, i dont really care how the fandom is viewed. if someone finds me annoying, so be it. but i will say that there are some parts of homestuck that a certainly... questionable. (i do think its important to acknowledge that homestuck was written from 2009-2016, but i dont think that necessarily excuses the shitty stuff).
for one, the r slur is used a couple of times which obviously sucks!! but im pretty sure theres a patch if you download the unofficial homestuck collection that will remove them!
also the f-slur is used once but not even in a homophobic way?? its played as a joke between two characters who are both canonically queer and are shown in queer relationships!!! if anything, homestuck is FAR from homophobic, so i wouldnt be worried there.
ive also heard that andrew hussie is racist. i definitely have my thoughts on hussie as a person, but i think that you can seperate the art from the artist. the kids in homestuck are all aracial, meaning they dont have a confirmed race, but the comic doesnt really 100% follow that. like, theres a part where the kids as babies are referred to as "pink monkeys." so. yeah. i will say though that its far and few between, i didnt even notice it until it was pointed out by someone else!
my opinion on the dancestors is that i dont really care about them? i found that part to be kind of boring if im being honest, the only part that i actually liked was the interactions between terezi and karkat or other pre-existing characters. most of the dancestors serve zero purpose in the story and are only there because hussie decided that the trolls needed ancestors too. the only dancestor that was actually important was meenah, i think? and then he made her a fucking groomer so, yeah. kankri and cronus were okay, but you could remove them entirely from the story and nothing would change. damara is obviously weird and i dont really like mituna either. other than that, i genuinely cant recall a single thing about any of the others.
and finally........ vriska. this probably wont make sense if you haven't read homestuck (also spoiler warning) so be advised.
i think that vriska is a really interesting character, but i dont think shes a good person. shes a bully. bullies are mean and abelist and manipulative, and thats exactly what she is!! she definitely did NOT do "nothing wrong" and i dont believe she ever apologized for the shitty things she did so i dont really get where that comes from??? but i do think shes really cool! (though, playing her pesterquest route has definitely swayed my opinion of her). as for (vriska) its implied that she had a quote-unquote "redemption arc" but its not really shown? which i think is a fault of the author. also vriska is still the "main" one so it doesnt really matter.
as for the good stuff about the fandom, there is so!! much!! content!! granted, a lot of it is years old and kind of cringy but a lot of it is cool too! the fandom (suprisingly) is not dead, and you can find lots of content of youtube, tiktok, instagram, tumblr, ao3, etc. some youtubers that i really like are:
