- jubilee line is the first song on ycgma. it criticizes london's pollution problem as well as the high suicide rates specifically on the london underground. "Jubilee Line is about how– when someone does take their life on the underground and on the tube network, it’s like almost the only response that commuters and random people will give is, [annoyed groan]." -wilbur soot.
- "Saline Solution is about hypochondria, health anxiety. […] That’s just who I be. That’s just a part of me now. […] Hypochondria is the idea that every single thing wrong with you is the end, and you need to go to the doctor or you’re going to die. And that's— that— I’ve always had that ever since I was a little baby. […] So yeah, hypochondria and “Saline Solution” is about me being scared I was going to die all the time." -wilbur soot.
- "Since I Saw Vienna is about travelling and is about the feeling of being with someone, but feeling lonely. The feeling of— that you have to keep moving." -wilbur soot. since i saw vienna is a really peaceful and pretty song! it was my favorite the first time i listened to the album.
- losing face is about wilbur getting broken up with and dealing with jealousy and self doubt. the first few verses and choruses were actually written while he was drunk!
heres an earlier version of the song
and heres an even EARLIER version of the song! - your sister was right is about wilbur feeling bad after treating his lover poorly, especially after her sister supposedly warned her about trusting him. not related to this song specifically, but ycgma was originally going to be called cocaine makes you boring!
- "La Jolla is sort of about just wanting to leave the UK, wanting to go travelling, and you know it’s something— basically, it’s a continuity of Since I Saw Vienna" -wilbur soot. this one has made me cry multiple times!!! specifically the line "ive tried hard to love me too. it always seems to fall in through."
- wilbur wrote im sorry boris a week before moving out of london! the beginning of the song references the beginning of la jolla: "you know it takes a lot to move me. so if you figure it out, tell me" / "i figured out what can move me. it's trains and hugs, planes and sushi" its about being torn between wanting to leave london or staying with his friends and family. "boris" being boris johnson, who was a prime minister of the uk. this is the final song on the album and the slowest/saddest in my opinion.
